Note
In this inspirational memoir, Hong recounts her impoverished upbringing and abuse she endured as an unwanted fourth child in a country with a two-child policy. A thirst for knowledge and support from caring teachers motivated her to escape her miserable existence--launching her on a journey from the Singapore slums to Mormon missionary life in Malaysia and eventually to Columbia University. Since finding her calling as a teacher, Hong has worked tirelessly to empower others and motivate them to define their own futures
